0xA is a one-man software consulting and development firm founded by Chris Portela in 2019.
0xA (pronounced “oh ex ay” or “zero ex a”) focuses primarily on helping clients get started with and learn how to maintain their cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and teaching best practices for using AWS or GCP.
Because often implementing best practices requires integrations with a client’s software this often includes some degree of software development to better integrate with cloud systems or simply make it more efficient.
Part of these “best practices” is taking security seriously, which increases the complexity of any cloud infrastructure significantly. A large part of 0xA’s work is trying to abstract this complexity for a client’s given development environment so it doesn’t disrupt or slow development, but gives the client the benefits of knowing that a mistake won’t destroy their cloud resources and business.
History
0xA grew out of existing work Chris was doing with companies he was working at and advising. A recurring theme was the lack of detailed experience with tools for managing cloud resources in AWS or GCP or simply a lack of time to get the configuration correct.
Founded in 2019, 0xA is meant to provide a one-stop-shop for gaining access to senior engineering experience in developing, testing, deploying, and scaling software applications in the cloud.
